The Cape County Gun Club at Apple Creek

The Cape Girardeau County Gun Club  has a Memorandum of Understanding with the Missouri Department of Conservation, and operates the Trap and Skeet Facility at the Apple Creek Conservation Area in northeastern Cape Girardeau County.  The purpose of the facility is to provide recreational and educational opportunities for the general public as well as members of the Gun Club.  From time to time, the Club and/or the Department of Conservation will conduct educational programs for various adult and youth groups to teach appropriate shooting and conservation programs.

Public Shooting Hours

Safety

The facility will be open to the public for trap and skeet shooting from March 1st through November 30th each year.  During those months, the range will observe the following  regular public shooting hours:
              Saturday 10-5  (10-4 in November)
              Sunday 1-5 (1-4 in November)
The range is closed on Easter Sunday.  During periods of inclement weather, the range may be closed.

Firearms safety is a major concern of the club and the Department of Conservation.  A trained range safety officer will be present at all times the range is open to the public and his/her instructions must be followed.  We want all shooters to have a safe and enjoyable experience, and any person observed behaving in an unsafe manner will be required to leave the premises.
  • When any firearm is brought onto the trap and skeet range, it must be unloaded, the action open, and the muzzle pointed in a safe direction at all times.
  • Loading of a firearm is permitted only when the shooter is at a designated shooting station and is preparing to shoot.
  • No shotguns larger than 12 gauge are permitted on the trap and skeet range.
  • No ammunition with shot size larger than 7 ½ may be used  (most use 7 ½ , 8 or 9 shot).
  • Empty hulls may not be picked up until a round of trap or skeet is complete and an “OK” has been given by the range safety officer.
  • Tactical shotguns, with a pistol hand grip, are not permitted on the trap or skeet range.
  • Youth under the age of 18 must be accompanied and supervised by a parent while using the range.
  • All persons present on the trap and skeet range must wear eye and ear protection.

The Cape County Gun Club is an NRA Affiliated organization.
